What is the Certificate in Information Technology Applications?
The Certificate in Information Technology Applications is
designed to familiarise students with the basic applications
of a personal computer. Through Office 2000, an integrated
software package, students will gain considerable "hands
on" computer experience on using a word processor, a
database and a spreadsheet. The course will also focus on
networking and the internet.
The goals of the course are:
- to learn how to problem-solve with a computer;
- to use the computer as a tool to produce solutions;
- to become acquainted with the capabilities and limitations
of a computer;
- to acquire a fundamental bases of computer knowledge.
Course content:
- an introduction to computers (including operating systems,
such as Windows 98 and 2000);
- word processing with MS-Word;
- databases using MS-Access and Oracle database;
- using the MS-Excel spreadsheet;
- software integration;
- desktop publishing;
- network essentials;
- networking and the internet;
- additional topics as deemed necessary.
Course objectives:
This course introduces students to current computer technologies
found in the workplace. The students will learn how to use
an operating system, a word processing program, a spreadsheet
program, a database program, a presentation management system,
an email system and the internet.

Entry requirements:
Candidates must have at least a Grade 12 Leaving Certificate.
Duration:
The course lasts six months and runs twice a year, that
is Jan-Jun and Jul-Dec.
